Crew Chief Confidential

From the Wally Parks NHRA Studio delivered by Papa John’s, NHRA reporter Lewis Bloom spoke via Skype with Jim Oberhofer about this past weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals.

Oberhofer was candid in his conversation about Team Kalitta’s results this past weekend with both Top Fuel cars losing in the first round. Doug Kalitta lost in the first round to Shawn Reed while rookie Top Fuel driver Troy Coughlin Jr. fell to Scott Palmer. Oberhofer addressed issues he had with Kalitta’s car along with the progress being made by rookie Coughlin.

Unfortunately for them, Kalitta Funny Car teammates Alexis DeJoria and J.R. Todd had to race in round one, which meant one of them would have an early exit. Todd won but broke in round two; Oberhofer explained what went wrong on the DHL Toyota. Finally, Oberhofer commented on the success of Dickie Venables and Todd Okuhara this season with their drivers Matt Hagan and Leah Pritchett.
