Tricky Tipster: NHRA Southern Nationals
The 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will visit the first of four new venues this weekend as South Georgia Motorsports Park is set to host the NHRA Southern Nationals, the fifth of 20 events scheduled this season.
This week, the PlayNHRA Favorites include Shawn Langdon and Doug Kalitta in Top Fuel, Ron Capps and Matt Hagan in Funny Car, Greg Anderson and Dallas Glenn in Pro Stock, along with Gaige Herrera and Richard Gadson in Pro Stock Motorcycle. The event will be part of the PlayNHRA initiative, where drag racing fans will once again have the opportunity to engage in fantasy games, gaming, and betting for this event. Betting markets feature Professional classes, where fans can wager on event winners, low elapsed time of the event, head-to-head matchups, and season champions.
Below are the opening odds as provided by Alt Sports Data.
(Note: In American sports betting, odds are typically expressed with a plus (+) or minus (–) symbol followed by a number. For example, +200 signifies the amount a bettor could win if wagering $100. If the bet works out, the player will receive a total payout of $300; $200 profit + $100 initial stake.)
TOP FUEL

Shawn Langdon was a runner-up to his teammate, Doug Kalitta, last week at the four-wide event in Charlotte, and this week, they are co-favorites in odds posted by at least one of the leading online sports books. Langdon was also the winner in Phoenix earlier this year, and he’s currently No. 2 in the standings, just 16 points behind Kalitta.
The Kalitta drivers open at +475, meaning a $10 wager on either of them would return $55.00 should that driver win the event.
In terms of odds, Leah Pruett is just a fraction behind with an opening price of +575, while Gainesville winner Josh Hart is +650 and Pomona winner Tony Stewart is priced at +850. Solid value can be found in Antron Brown at +1000 and Justin Ashley at +1100. Billy Torrence also carries a +1100 price.
The list of long shots is extensive, including Clay Millican (+1200), Maddi Gordon (+1300), Shawn Reed (+1800), and Tony Schumacher (+1800).

FUNNY CAR

Once again, the Funny Car field is wide open with the top seven drivers in the class priced at 10-1 or shorter. The field is led by Matt Hagan and Ron Capps, who have each visited the winner’s circle this season. The two former champs are each priced at +400, as the tour heads to its first new venue since the arrival of the Epping event in 2013.
Jordan Vandergriff has had a solid start to his Funny Car career, and the oddsmakers have taken note as he’s +600, slightly ahead of teammate Jack Beckman and J.R. Todd at +700. The third John Force Racing driver, Alexis DeJoria, is also off to a fast start this season and opens at +800 with Chad Green at +1000 if he can duplicate his Gainesville success.
Further down the order, it gets interesting as Austin Prock carries a +1200 price, which seems unusually high for a two-time and defending champion. Prock has yet to win a round in his first four outings since joining Bob Tasca’s Motorcraft Ford team, but that could change at any time.
Another driver looking for a rebound is Spencer Hyde, who is +1400, while Daniel Wilkerson, Cruz Pedregon, Hunter Green, Dave Richards, John Smith, and Jeff Arends are the long shots this week. Richards is particularly interesting because his Blue Bird Turf team has made steady progress, yet he’s at +400, meaning a $10 wager would return $410.00 should he score his first career win.

PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE

After Richard Gadson won the season-opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals and Gaige Herrera scored in Charlotte, the Vance & Hines team is a perfect two-for-two on the young season in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Not surprisingly, they are big favorites with Herrera at +125 and Gadson a fraction behind at +210.
Matt Smith, who will look to rebound after a tough outing last week in Charlotte, is a +700 while his wife, Angie, is at +1400, a price she shares with South Georgia native Brayden Davis.
In terms of long shots, there is an interesting trio all priced at +2000; John Hall, Ryan Oehler, and Clayton Howey. Each of them have had their shining moments this season, and each appear capable of a victory.
Two other previous winners that carry a heavy price tag are Chase Van Sant and Jianna Evaristo at +3000 with multitime winner Steve Johnson at +5000, along with Marc Ingwersen and Kelly Clontz.
