After a small summer break, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series heads west for its annual visit to picturesque Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash. Once again, NHRA fans will have the opportunity to engage in fantasy games, gaming, and betting as part of the new PlayNHRA initiative.

As part of PlayNHRA, NHRA’s partnerships with leading sports books and fantasy sports providers will enable fans to sign up for free and legally wager on national events and other outcomes in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.

The experts at Alt Sports Data have set the opening lines for this week’s event at Pacific Raceways, and they have chosen Doug Kalitta, Austin Prock, Greg Anderson, and Gaige Herrera as the pre-race favorites.

Below are the opening odds as provided by Alt Sports Data.

(Note: In American sports betting, odds are typically expressed with a plus (+) or minus (–) symbol followed by a number. For example, +200 signifies the amount a bettor could win if wagering $100. If the bet works out, the player would receive a total payout of $300 ($200 profit + $100 initial stake.)

TOP FUEL

Reigning world champ Doug Kalitta finished the first half of the season as the leader in Top Fuel after two wins in five final rounds, so it’s no surprise that he begins the second half of the season as the favorite. Kalitta’s price has been set at +591, which means a $10 wager would return a profit of $59.10. Kalitta is a co-favorite along with fellow title contenders Justin Ashley, Steve Torrence, and Brittany Force, who is making her return after missing the most recent event in Norwalk.

It’s worth noting that there have already been five different winners this season in Top Fuel, and that does not include Steve or Billy Torrence, Force, Clay Millican, Tony Stewart, Josh Hart, or Jasmine Salinas, who has made steady progress in her first season in the class.

FUNNY CAR

Austin Prock has led the NHRA Mission Foods Funny Car events standings since Epping, and he shows no signs of slowing down even after his teammate John Force was injured in Richmond. Prock finished the first half of the season with three wins and three runner-up finishes in 10 events, so he’s once again the favorite, albeit by a slim margin.

After Prock, the co-favorites include Matt Hagan, Bob Tasca III, Ron Capps, and J.R. Todd. Capps should attract the attention of some bettors this weekend as he’s got a long history with Pacific Raceways and his NAPA Toyota team has shown signs of progress lately. For anyone looking for a first-time winner, Daniel Wilkerson opens at an attractive price of +819, and when it comes to longshots, Paul Lee opens at +3,222.

PRO STOCK

When it comes to parity, the NHRA Pro Stock class has it right now with six different winners in the first 10 events. Seattle favorite Greg Anderson has gotten his share, which leads to an opening price of +496. Anderson is followed closely by championship leader Dallas Glenn, Erica Enders, Aaron Stanfield, Jeg Coughlin Jr., and his nephew, Troy Coughlin Jr., who have each scored at least one victory. So, who might be the next Pro Stock winner this season? Oddsmakers believe it could be Matt Hartford, Kenny Delco, Deric Kramer, or Jerry Tucker.

PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE

Unbeaten in his last 11 starts dating back to last September, it’s no wonder that reigning world champ Gaige Herrera continues to be a massive favorite in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class. Herrera is in the process of making NHRA history with the record for consecutive wins and rounds already in the bank. Given his dominance, it’s not a surprise that Herrera commands a heavy price of -377, which means a wager of $37.70 would net a profit of $10.

Herrera’s dominance means there is value in other racers, including six-time world champ Matt Smith, Richard Gadson, Chase Van Sant, and Angie Smith. At some point, Herrera will probably lose a round, and those four riders are the most likely ones to end his historic streak.
