Factory Stock duo Jason and Taylor Dietsch tackle Thunder Valley

Jason Dietsch began racing in the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series in 2018 and over the years the owner of Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales built his racing program at a steady pace. Three weeks ago, at the Gerber Collision and Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Joliet, Dietsch accomplished a rare double win capturing the title from the postponed Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals on Saturday and the Route 66 event win on Sunday. Claiming his second win in 24 hours, Dietsch had to outrun his son, Taylor, in the semifinal round.
As the tour heads to Bristol Dragway for the 12th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, the father and son combo from Edgerton, Ohio, have a mission to keep family winning streak alive.
“[The two wins] have sunk in a little, but it is about to get real when we get to Bristol,” said Jason Dietsch, driver of the Dietsch Trailer Sales Cobra Jet Mustang. “We haven’t raced at Bristol Dragway, but I have been to the circle track [Bristol Motor Speedway] a couple times. I think I will be not more relaxed but just more focused on everything because I won’t be focused on getting that first win. I think I will be able to drive better and just have more fun.”
The pressure of managing a growing trailer business and racing in the highly competitive Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown class keeps the elder Dietsch focused. The fact that he gets to spend quality time with son, Taylor at the track as well as a solid group competitors and friends makes the hours spent at the shop worth it.
“Racing with Taylor is fun and my daughter [Jayden] races too, so the whole family is involved,” said Dietsch. “That is one of the great things about racing is everyone can play a role. Now that I have a couple wins, we are all excited to get to Bristol.”
The Route 66 event was Taylor Dietsch’s break out race. The younger driver was competing in his fourth career Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown race as the No. 2 qualifier. He defeated veteran Joe Welch and Doug Hamp to reach the semifinals before he ran against the hottest driver in the category at the time, his father.
“I have been racing with my dad for a while, but it is a lot of fun to race in factory stock for sure,” said Taylor Dietsch. “We have always worked together on the cars. We solve problems together, and communication is pretty good. When we both make runs, we have double the feedback and we can sort things out a lot faster, I think.”
In addition to the Dietschs, the Thunder Valley Nationals Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown field will be stacked with tough drivers including Scott Libersher, Hamp and Tony Scott Jr., who each wheel COPO Camaros. Mark Pawuk, the 2024 Flexjet Factory Stock world champion, will be racing for his first win of the season in his Empaco Dodge Challenger along with championship contender Lee Hartman, and Top Fuel driver Josh Hart and teammate David Davies II. The Dietsch family will also be joined by fellow Mustang racers James Betz and Jonathan Allegrucci, the Las Vegas Four-Wide Nationals winner..
The Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series has reached the halfway point of the season with Jason Dietsch sitting atop the point standings followed by Hartman, Pawuk, Allegrucci and Hamp. Roughly three rounds of racing separate the top four drivers so an early exit on race day could shuffle the point standings.
