Handras scores again in Epping to lead New England Nationals winners

In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the NHRA New England Nationals, eight drivers claimed Lucas Oil Series wins at New England Dragway

With his victory in Comp, Joe Carnasciale has now won a national event in three of the last four seasons. The Rhode Island veteran, who runner-upped last year at Indy, finished the job with an easy run in the all-New England final after homestate hero Chip Ippolito ran into problems in the final. Shane Oakes chased down Bob Don in the Super Stock final to claim his second career NHRA national event Wally. Oakes sealed the win with a 9.732 against his 9.72 dial. [video]

Maine’s Bob Letellier ended a 21-year winless drought when he claimed the Stock title over Mike Farrell. Letellier posted a 9.410 on his 9.40 dial after Farrell broke out by .018-second. [video]

Rick Rollinson collected his first national event win in Super Comp, turning on the final-round win light with an 8.95 after opponent Rich Dorr slammed through the timers with an 8.885 breakout. [video]

Michael Handras, who won the NHRA New England Nationals last year in Super Comp, got it done again this year in Super Gas, capping his weekend with a .008-launched 9.96 that held off Mac Arthur Starks’s quicker-but-later 9.95. [video]

Patrick Smith wheeled his Buick Regal to a narrow in Super Street, collecting the victory with a near-perfect 10.904 against Frank Volpe, who broke out with a 10.895. [video]

After a long and successful career as a Division 1 E.T. bracket racer, Al Staffieri collected his first NHRA win in Right Trailers Top Dragster when he stopped Kyle Cultrera in a final decided by .0004-second at the finish line. [video]

Matt Harper successfully defended his 2024 New England Nationals title when he scored the win in Right Trailers Top Sportsman. After an even start, Harper stopped opponent William Destefano with a 7.496 on his 7.49 dial. [video]
