Nine Sportsman champs crowned in wild Lucas Oil Series action in Brainerd

In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the Lucas Oil NHRANationals, nine winners were crowned in Lucas Oil Series competition at Brainerd Raceway, including Donnie Durenburger, who won the event in Super Street for the second time in three years.

In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the Lucas Oil NHRANationals, nine winners were crowned in Lucas Oil Series competition at Brainerd Raceway.

Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Anthony Troyer scored his second win of the season in his Fendt-backed McPhillips Racing A/Fueler as the Winternationals champ defeated nine-time tour Jackie Fricke on a final-round holeshot, 5.24 to 5.21. [video]

Reigning Top Alcohol Funny Car world champ Sean Bellemeur collected his fourth win of the season and inched closer to his milestone 50th career win with victory No. 47, winning a close final-round encounter with Bob McCosh, 5.45 to 5.47. [video]

Division 5 Comp champ Matt Harris added a second Wally to his collection as the Nebraska-based speedster defeated No. 1 qualifier Cali Neff in the final, (-.47) 7.79 to Neff’s (-.33) 6.82. [video]

Jason DeForrest successfully defended his 2024 Brainerd win and collected his seventh Wally when he beat veteran Len Schnieder in the Super Stock final. DeForrest left first and ran 9.072 against his 9.03 dial. [video]

Ryan Hutar, a runner-up at his home event in Brainerd in 2016, returned to the Stock final and scored his first win by taking out current points leader Joe Santangelo with a 10.167 on his 10.15 dial. [video]

Brian Johnson, who hails from the Minnesota town of Nowthen, had a little now-then flashback as he won the event for the second time, following up his 2018 Brainerd Super Stock conquest with a Super Comp victory this year on an 8.93 to 8.96 final-round decision over Bob Prose. [video]

Three-time U.S. Nationals finalist Jason Kenny broke a four-year victory drought as he collected career win No. 5 in Super Gas, defeating local favorite Trevor Larson, the 2023 world champ, on a 9.92 to 9.94 count. [video]

Donnie Durenberger, who won this event two years ago, struck again in Super Street for his third career win, surviving a double-breakout final-round bout with Scott Cowles, 10.887 to 10.863. [video]

A week after winning the Lucas Oil Series event in Brainerd, Michael Chitty returned for his second national event win when he used a .02-over 6.641 to top Jim Thorp in the Right Trailers Top Sportsman final. [video]

After a pair of national event titles in Super Comp, Mark Grame claimed his first win in Right Trailers Top Dragster with a perfect 6.730 on his 6.73 dial to beat final round opponent Holden Laris, who wasn’t far behind with a 6.129 on his 6.10 dial. [video]
