Teams took to the track last weekend at the Nitro Spring Training test at Wild Horse Pass Raceway in Arizona. NHRA reporter Lewis Boom caught up with crew chiefs Jimmy Prock, Jim Oberhofer, and Dickie Venables to check on their progress.
Prock is back at John Force Racing for the first time since the end of 2014 and will tune Force’s car. Oberhofer tunes Doug Kalitta’s Mac Tools dragster for Connie Kalitta and Dickie Venables is crew chief for Matt Hagan, one of four Funny Cars for Don Schumacher Racing.
Prock spoke about once again getting a handle on the parts used by John Force Racing compared to the last two years racing with Jack Beckman at Don Schumacher. Oberhofer talked about not only his team car driven by Doug Kalitta but also the entire Kalitta Motorsports team, which is using home built cylinder heads for the first time. Finally Venables spoke about some of the things he was dealing with at the test, along with a great quote about what it will take to win in Funny Car in 2017.
