Mopar NHRA Las Vegas Nationals Sunday preview
Fans who attended the Mopar NHRA Las Vegas Nationals powered by Dodge on Saturday got to witness history with the sport’s first all-three second Funny Car field. On Sunday, there will certainly be more history made including the possibility of champions crowned in both the Mission Foods NHRA Pro series and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing sportsman series.
On Saturday, Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel), Jack Beckman (Funny Car), Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) secured the top qualifying spots at the 19th of 20 races this season.
Beckman stayed a distant first in the loaded Funny Car category, as his run of 3.836 seconds at 335.32 mph from Friday in his PEAK wasn’t challenged on Saturday. The real news in Funny Car came when Julie Nataas, Jeff Diehl, and Jason Rupert each made a three second run, to clinch the long awaited all three-second field. Ironically, Rupert wound up outside the field as 17 drivers recorded sub-four second runs.
Points leader Matt Hagan qualified second with a 3.868 and Jordan Vandergriff took third after going 3.868. Hagan has a 99-point lead against Vandergriff, who could be a possible semifinal opponent, while third-place J.R. Todd could meet Hagan in the second round on Sunday.
Langdon moved a step closer to getting his second world championship, qualifying No. 1 on the strength of Friday’s 3.672 in his Kalitta Air dragster. It’s the ninth top spot of the season for Langdon, who could clinch a championship on Sunday if he goes three rounds further than teammate Doug Kalitta.
Langdon opens eliminations against Cameron Ferre while Kalitta is paired against Will Smith.
Tony Stewart is qualified second after going 3.676 and Josh Hart took third with a run of 3.688 in the very quick field.
Pro Stock’s Dallas Glenn made a major statement on Saturday, as the points leader and reigning world champ made the quickest runs in both sessions, taking the No. 1 spot with a run of 6.620 at 205.91 in his RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro.
Glenn added to his points lead in Pro Stock, clinching his fourth top qualifier in 2026 as the defending event winner looks to repeat in Las Vegas. Glenn will open eliminations against Alan Prusiensky, as he attempts to distance himself from rivals Matt Hartford, Greg Stanfield, Greg Anderson, and Troy Coughlin Jr., who are all in the mix for the title.
Gaige Herrera, the early leader in Pro Stock Motorcycle, picked up six additional qualifying bonus points on Saturday. Herrera delivered a crushing blow with a 6.799 on his RevZilla/Vance & Hines Suzuki to collect his fifth No. 1 qualifier of the season.
Points leader Richard Gadson qualified second with a 6.836 and Ryan Oehler is third after going 6.844. Gadson faces John Hall while fellow title contender Matt Smith races Karen Stoffer in round one.
Sunday’s packed schedule also features final eliminations in the
JBS Pro Mod Series, Lucas Oil Drag Racing series, and the Summit Racing Equipment E.T. Racing National Finals.
