Campbell, Densham will team up to celebrate 1,000th Funny Car race in Pomona
Jim Campbell Racing and Densham Motorsports will team up for NHRA’s 1,000th Funny Car race, the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, where Campbell will take the wheel of the Densham entry at the third event of the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.
Densham Motorsports owner Gary Densham has been competing in the Funny Car class, first as a driver/tuner beginning in 1970 and then, more recently, as a mentor to his son, Stephen.
Campbell has been forging his path as a hired Funny Car driver for the last decade, driving for West Coast legends including Jim Dunn and the Worsham family, but now has embraced the role of team owner as he prepares to strike out on his own later this year with an operation currently under construction.
“Running the 1,000th Funny Car race with Gary is something special,” said Campbell. “The history of Funny Cars on the West Coast, and Gary’s longtime role as one of its longest-running and most popular drivers, makes this an incredible moment for both of us, and our way of helping to celebrate the long history of the class and NHRA’s 75th Anniversary season.
“We’re bringing big energy, big personality, and a big opening for a partner who wants to ride with us into NHRA history.”
Densham’s Funny Car will feature an inviting “Your Name Here” livery, hoping to capitalize on the national television exposure, massive fan engagement, and the legacy of two veteran racers as Campbell continues to put his new team together.
