Smith family honored with Holley Never Rest award at NAPA Midwest Nationals
When Jr. Drag Racer Savannah Smith was a late addition to the Jr. Dragster Shootout at the NAPA Auto Parts NHRA Midwest Nationals, her father, Mark, leapt into action to make sure she could compete in the prestigious event.
Mark, who races in Super Gas and Super Street, was already scheduled to compete at the double divisional at World Wide Technology Raceway the following weekend and at the Division 4 event at Texas NHRA FallNationals two weeks later at Texas Motorplex and had not planned on attending the Midwest Nationals.
Mark worked tirelessly the week before the Midwest Nationals to get both his own car and Savannah’s S&W Powersports Jr. Dragster prepped, often working late into the night. In the final two days before the event, he slept only four hours, but his hard work paid off as she was able to take part in the race.
