
Lucas Oil Sportsman winners race to glory at NHRA Reading Nationals
In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the NHRA Reading, eight other winners were crowned in Lucas Oil Series action at Maple Grove Raceway.
Two weeks after just missing his first national event win with a Top Alcohol Dragster runner-up at the Cornwell Quality Tires NHRA U.S. Nationals, Jamie Noonan collected a long overdue victory, beating two-time season winner Anthony Troyer in the final round, 5.25 to 5.27. [video]
Winternationals champ Brian Hough scored again in Top Alcohol Funny Car, collecting his 14th career victory and his first on the East Coast with a solid 5.61 final-round victory over Jim Whiteley. [video]
Two years after a runner-up at this event in his first final-round appearance, Mark Hopkins made good this year for his first career win, driving his D/A Beretta past first-time finalist Paul Ricci for the Comp win, (-53) 7.65 to (-.33) 8.15. [video]
Canadian Louis Gill led a long list of first-time winners with a victory in Super Stock. Gill overcame a .007 light by opponent Anthony Bongiovanni to win with a 9.532 on his 9.52 dial. [video]
Past world champ Michael Iacono won his seventh national event and first since 2016 when he scored in Stock. Iacono topped Dave Casey in a double-breakout final. [video]
Homestate hero David Long won his first NHRA national event, winning a wild double-breakout Super Comp final round over Amanda Boicesco, 8.898 to 8.892 after Boicesco crossed the finish line first. [video]
Michael Reynolds made the drive across the border pay off as he scored his first career win in Super Gas, defeating fellow Canadian Charles Kenopic in the final round, 9.931 to 9.936. [video]
Vince Fourcade, who has had prior success in everything from bracket racing to Pro Stock, defeated George Forster in the final of Right Trailers Top Sportsman for his first NHRA national event win. Fourcade was nearly perfect off the starting line and cruised to a 7.395 on his 7.23 dial. [video]
