

First-time winners highlight Norwalk Lucas Oil Series competition

In addition to the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, 10 drivers collected NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series wins at Summit Motorsports Park.
Top Alcohol Dragster rookie McKenna Bold won her first Wally in a wire-to-wire domination in the Randy Meyer-prepared A/Fuel entry, qualifying No 1 and then defeating world champ Shawn Cowin in an all-Canadian final, 5.31 to 5.32. [video]
World champ Sean Bellemeur scored his third Top Alcohol Funny Car win of the season and the 46th of his great career, defeating fellow California-based world champ Shane Westerfield in the final. The Bartone Bros. machine was running its supercharged combination after parking the potent injected nitro setup that won earlier this season. [video]
David Dupps Jr. joined his father, a five-time tour winner, as a national event champ, defeating 1996 championship runner-up John Frech in the Comp final. Dupps, who had three previous runner-ups in Super Stock, got the better light and ran (-.47) 8.12 to defeat Frech’s (-.47) 8.02. [video]
Driving a car he borrowed from Doug Duell, Kevin Helms scored the win in Super Stock when he defeated Pete D’Agnolo in a battle of former world champs. D’Agnolo was appearing in his third straight final round at Summit Motorsports Park. [video]
Fresh off a victory a week ago in Richmond, Joe Santangelo maintained his momentum with a second straight Stock title. Santangelo overcame a nearly perfect .007 light by Caleb McFarland to win with a 10.593 on his 10.52 dial. [video]
A pair of past Super Gas world champs squared off in the Super Comp final, and the win, the eighth of his career, went to 2019 Super Gas kingpin Jeremy Mason after 2018 champ Devin Isenhower fouled by .003-second. Mason’s eight wins are split equally between Super Comp and Super Gas. [video]
Home-state favorite Jacob Elrod dominated the Super Gas final with a .001 reaction time and a 9.919 to defeat Texan Jim Repka’s 9.94 for his fifth career national event victory. [video]
Reigning back-to-back Division 3 Super Street champ Damien Hazelton scored his second career win, driving around Carl Saari’s footbraked, old-school '70 Dart in the final round for a 10.937 to 10.962 victory. [video]
Al Kenny scored career win No. 13 when he claimed the win in Right Trailers Top Dragster. In the final, Kenny defeated Tony Elrod, who red-lighted by .004-second. [video]
Past NHRA U.S. Nationals winner Chris Osborn turned in a solid performance on his way to the win in Right Trailers Top Sportsman. Osborn topped Keith Castle in the final with a .032 light and a 6.772 on his 6.74 dial. [video]
