NHRA New England Nationals Friday preview

Speed.

You are our origin story. While other motorsports measure the miles, count the laps, or test endurance, we were born for velocity. That spirit is alive and thundering into New England Dragway today as the 2025 NHRA New England Nationals kick off a weekend of pure adrenaline in Epping, New Hampshire. Now in its 13th year, this fan-favorite event in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series brings nitro-fueled action to one of the most passionate racing regions in the country.

To ensure the best fan experience on this final weekend in May, Friday’s schedule has been revised: Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series action begins at 9:30 a.m. ET, Pro Stock qualifying runs at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m., and the Top Fuel and Funny Car heavy hitters take the line at 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.

In Top Fuel, Tony Stewart leads the charge, holding the number one position after setting the team’s winning pace in Las Vegas and Chicago. Close behind is Shawn Langdon, also with two wins to his name. Reigning world champion Antron Brown sits in third, bringing fire and focus as he looks to reclaim the top spot, while Doug Kalitta remains a threat after a strong showing in Chicago.

Funny Car fans can look forward to Austin Prock, the season’s breakout star, leading the class with multiple wins, including a recent triumph at Route 66 Raceway. He’s here to defend his boss John Force’s Funny Car success from last year. Hot on Prock’s heels are his John Force Racing teammate Jack Beckman and “Mr. New Hampshire” Matt Hagan, who has won this event more than any other Funny Car driver, both always ready to strike with experience and horsepower.

In Pro Stock, multi-time champion Greg Anderson is once again the man to beat, but Dallas Glenn and Troy Coughlin Jr. are in peak form and ready to challenge.

Beyond the racing, Friday offers fans the full NHRA experience. From pit access that puts you just feet away from 12,000-horsepower rebuilds to the buzzing energy of Nitro Alley—with sponsor activations, food, and entertainment—there’s something for everyone. Best of all, kids 12 and under get in free with a paid adult, making this a family-friendly blast of American horsepower.

For fans at home, FS1 will carry Friday’s qualifying coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET—bringing the speed, the sound, and the stakes right to your screen.

Friday in Epping is more than just the first day of racing—it’s a celebration of why we were born. Not to endure. Not to coast. But to fly.
