As a result of competition at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, the penultimate event of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series regular season, more drivers have locked in their positions in the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Just the Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals remains in the NHRA regular season to set the combatants for the six-race Countdown playoffs. Drivers qualify for the Countdown in two ways: by finishing in the Top 10 of points at the conclusion of the U.S. Nationals or by attending every race of the regular season and making at least the minimum number of required qualifying attempts at those events.
