Jeff Cheney leads roll call of Sportsman winners at Route 66 Nationals

In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals, five drivers claimed Lucas Oil Series wins at Route 66 Raceway, including Super Comp winner Jeff Jeney, who broke an 18-year victory drought.

In addition to the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series action at the Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 NHRA Nationals, five drivers claimed Lucas Oil Series wins at Route 66 Raceway.

Donna Morris became NHRA’s latest female winner when she drove past Troy Gailbraith in the Super Stock final. Morris sealed the win with a 10.69 on her 10.67 dial. [video]

Marion Stephenson collected his eighth national event title after a foul start by Ricky Shipp in the Stock final. Stephenson has won at least one national event in five of the last six seasons.  [video]

Nearly 18 years after his last win, Jeff Chaney returned to the winner’s circle in Super Comp, besting Kimbra Fuesting on a final-round holeshot, 8.923 to 8.917. Cheney previously won in Super Gas at Route 66 Raceway back in 2006. [video]

Six years after reaching the Route 66 Raceway winner’s circle in Super Comp, David Dahlem was celebrating again, this time in Super Gas, where he was better at both ends of the track against Nathan Prose in the final. [video]

Driving one of the quickest cars in the field, Greg Rice claimed his first NHRA title in Right Trailers Top Dragster by beating Tony Elrod in the final. Rice was solid with a .003 light and a 6.151 on his 6.10 dial. [video]
