Final 2023 Sportsman winners crowned at In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals

In addition to the Camping World Drag Racing Series action at In-N-Out Burger Pomona dragstrip, nine drivers also took some victories in Lucas Oil Series Racing at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals.

In addition to the Camping World Drag Racing Series action at In-N-Out Burger Pomona dragstrip, nine drivers also took some victories in Lucas Oil Series Racing at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals.

Topeka Top Alcohol Dragster winner Hunter Green scored his second career win and joined his father, Funny Car winner Chad Green, on the victory stage in Pomona after defeating Kim Parker in the final round, 5.19 to 5.44. [video]

Sean Bellemeur wasn’t able to win the Top Alcohol Funny Car world championship again, but he finished the season on a three-race win streak with wins at the Las Vegas national and divisional events and then the season finale in Pomona, his sixth win of the season, with a solid 5.45 in his 50th career final after former world champ Shane Westerfield had to abort his pass. Comp veteran Ralph Van Paepeghem won the second Wally of his long career, wheeling his A/EA Bantam to a final-round decision over Brandon Huhtala, who got loose and had to abort his final-round effort.Van Paepeghem, runner-up earlier this season in Phoenix, scored his first career win two years ago in Sonoma. Wyatt Wagner clinched the Lucas Oil Super Stock championship earlier in the weekend and then went on to drive his ’68 Camaro to a final-round victory over newly crowned Stock champ Kyle Rizzoli, who broke a rocker arm before the final and couldn’t make the run. [video]

Leo Glasbrenner claimed his 12th career win and third in Pomona when he drove his COPO Camaro past Clifton Hanson in the Stock final. Glasbrenner cruised to a 9.581 on his 9.42 dial after Hanson slowed in his vintage ’69 Camaro. [video]

John Labbous Jr. drove the dragster owned by 2022 Super Comp world champion Jum Glenn to victory in Pomona, and capped it with a perfect .000 reaction time in the final round that he tied to a near-perfect 8.907 to defeat Northwest favorite Cooper Chun, who broke out by a thousandth of a second with an 8.899. Steve Williams collected career win No. 16 and his third at the Finals, blasting to a near-perfect 9.909 in the Super Gas final round to beat K&N Filters colleague Greg Ventura in the final round by just .005-second. [video]

Grant Durie, the 2017 Phoenix champ, claimed his second win in the Right Trailers Top Dragster class when he topped past world champ Al Kenny in the final. Kenny had the quicker light, but Durie was able to hold him off and win with a 6.543 on his 6.52 dial.  [video]

Bryan Warr, who last graced a national event winner’s circle at the 2018 Phoenix event, earned the win in Right Trailers Top Sportsman by beating Richard Okerman in the final. After an even start, Warr won the double-breakout race with a 6.779 against his 6.79 dial. [video]
