In addition to the Camping World Drag Racing Series action taking place at Bandimere Speedway, six champions were also crowned in Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition at the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals.

Appearing in his first final round since the 2018 Topeka race, Tyler Wudarczyk scored career win No. 4 in Super Stock after opponent Bill Jenkins red-light by .015-second. Wudarczyk would have been difficult to beat with a .008 reaction time in his GT/MA Camaro. Jenkins reached his first national event win after a perfect light in the semifinals. [video]

In 1986, John Brimer won the Super Gas title in Denver and he returned to the Bandimere Speedway winner’s circle 34 years later with a win in Stock. Brimer matched his 9.55 dial in the final against Jay Storey, who was just a thousandth of a second behind with a 9.820 against his 9.79 dial. [video]

A pair of first-time finalists and local racers squared off in the Super Comp final with Marty Simpson capturing his first win in a great finale against Todd McCann. The duo left within a thousandth of a second of one another before Simpson forged ahead for a 9.524 to 9.593 win in the 9.50 altitude index. [video]

Kris Whitfield won Super Gas at the Mile-High Nationals for third time in the last six years, wheeling his ’27-T Ford roadster to a final-round victory over Ray Schoneman. Whitfield, who also won this event, back-to-back in 2016 and ’17, grabbed a strong holeshot and controlled the race that ended with a win in a double-breakout, 10.482 to 10.475. [video]

Track favorite Chandler Thyssen, who got his start in Jr. dragsters at Bandimere Speedway, scored his first career national event win in Top Dragster presented by Vortech Superchargers, powering to a 7.414 on his 7.41 dial after opponent Daria Vang broke just off the starting line in the final. Top Sportsman presented by Vortech Superchargers champ Dave Scutt joined the list of first-time winners at the Mile-High Nationals after piloting his ’91 Olds Calais to a 7.73 on his 7.71 dial that forced final-round opponent Wade Keifer into a 7.310 breakout on his 7.33 objective. [video]
