Preseason testing will rev up prior to Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals

The Top Fuel and Funny Car stars of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series are headed to south Florida the first week of March to begin testing prior to the NHRA season-opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals March 11-14 at Gainesville Raceway.

The Top Fuel and Funny Car stars of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series are headed to south Florida the first week of March to begin testing prior to the NHRA season-opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals March 11-14 at Gainesville Raceway.

Nearly 20 drivers from more than a dozen of the top professional NHRA teams, including nine current or former world champions, will test in south Florida March 5-7, then head north to Gainesville Raceway for additional testing March 9-10.

Among those heading to Florida early are three-time and reigning NHRA Camping World Top Fuel champ Steve Torrence and his father, Billy; the four Don Schumacher Racing entries, including three-time and reigning Funny Car champion Matt Hagan, three-time Top Fuel champ Antron Brown, 2016 Funny Car king Ron Capps, and Top Fuel ace Leah Pruett; the three-car Kalitta Motorsports team of Doug Kalitta and past world champs J.R. Todd and Shawn Langdon; and the three-car John Force Racing operation of former world champs John Force, Robert Hight, and Brittany Force, who will be competing in their first Camping World Series since February 2020.
 
Joining them will be past two-time Funny Car champ Cruz Pedregon, 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year Justin Ashley, Alexis DeJoria, Bob Tasca III, Paul Lee, Blake Alexander in Jim Head’s entry, and Mike Salinas, whose Scrappers Racing entry will make its first appearance since the end of the 2019 season.

The Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals revs into action March 11 with NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Sportsman racing qualifying and time trials. The Camping World Drag Racing Series kicks off Friday with one qualifying session for Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle Friday, followed by two more passes Saturday and final eliminations on Sunday, March 14. The E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, Top Fuel Harley, and Factory Stock Showdown will also be in competition that weekend.
