Robert Hight returned with a vengeance in the final qualifying session at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals. The driver of the Auto Club Chevy Camaro captured pole position yet again with a 3.88-second pass after failing to break the 3-second mark all weekend to that point. Tuner Jimmy Prock loaded the car up after a rain delay in between Funny Car sessions and the Camaro ended up .002-second ahead of No. 2 qualifier Tommy Johnson Jr. and No. 3 qualifier Ron Capps.

The Don Schumacher Racing teammates split their qualifying spots based on speed. Johnson was one mile per hour faster than Capps, who has won the last two races on tour in his NAPA Brakes Funny Car, and that was enough to earn him a pair of bonus points. Shawn Langdon took his Global Electronic Technology Toyota Camry to the No. 5 with an excellent pass of his own.

Jim Campbell survived a dogfight for the final qualifying spots. He held down the bump spot with a 4.055-second pass. Justin Schriefer missed out by .001-second, while Dale Creasy Jr. and Terry Haddock also missed the field despite running quicker than 4.2-seconds.

Paul Lee and Jeff Arend also featured in a memorable side-by-side lap as Lee crossed the centerline and Arend suffered an explosion in the final round of qualifying. WATCH:
