Ashley, who made his Top Fuel debut at the NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals in Charlotte, defeated Mike Salinas in the first round of racing despite running only 298-mph in his social media-inspired Top Fuel dragster tuned by Aaron Brooks. He outran Salinas, who entered Monday race day third in points in his Alan Johnson-tuned machine. Ashley left first and extended his lead down track to move to the second round on the first race day of his professional career.
