NHRA Championship Drag Racing, the world’s fastest motorsport, announced that the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Awards Ceremony will once again return to Hollywood’s Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland on Monday, Nov. 12.
This invitation-only black-tie affair, where NHRA will honor its 2018 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series world champions in all four professional categories, will begin with a pre-event cocktail reception at 5 p.m. A formal sit-down dinner will follow with cuisine provided by renowned Wolfgang Puck Catering. In addition to recognizing the new world champions, the ceremony will feature the recipient of the Auto Club Road To The Future Award and the winner of the NHRA Manufacturer’s Cup. The official after party at the nearby Ohm Nightclub will end the evening’s festivities.
This year, NHRA will also present a special Lifetime Achievement Award to legendary driver, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, a pioneer in the sport of drag racing. Not only was Garlits the first drag racer to break through a myriad of speed barriers, he’s also known for his innovations in safety. Most notably, he perfected the rear-engine Top Fuel dragster design to create a safer driving experience and revolutionizing the class.
NHRA also announced that the entire NHRA Mello Yello Awards Ceremony will be available for viewing via nhra.com/mydrs-awards on Wednesday, Nov. 21. It marks the 10th year that the full event will be available to fans via the internet.
Champions in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series will be honored earlier in the day at OHM Nightclub, located on the fourth level of the Hollywood & Highland Center, before joining the activities at the Mello Yello Awards Ceremony where they will also be recognized.
