Western Colorado Dragway’s Ray Vollender joined NHRA reporter Lewis Bloom in the Wally Parks NHRA Studio via Skype delivered by Papa John’s to talk about the track’s 50th anniversary season.

Vollender is one of the board members of the race track and also races there, as does his daughter Mikayla. The track, located in Grand Junction, Colo., was founded in 1958 and moved to its current location in 1967.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the track is undergoing a major lighting upgrade and the installation of new bleacher boards.

Many NHRA racers have made their way through the gates of Western Colorado over the years, including Jim Hughes, Denny Lucas, Terry Ruckman, and the entire Whiteley family.
