RISING SUN, Md. – Dan Page and DJ Cox Jr. took home the wins along with brothers Brian and Mike Sawyer at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Cecil County Dragway.

Page, Hampstead, N.H., faced off with Josh Hart, Ocala, Fla., in the final of Top Alcohol Dragster for the third time this year. Page turned the tables this time, taking his first win of the season with a 5.538 second, 262.79 mph pass to Hart’s 6.429, 154.79. Hart won the previous meetings in Epping and Atco, N.J.

Cox took the early lead against Phil Burkart in Top Alcohol Funny Car and just barely held on against the hard-charging Burkhart, who ran quicker at 5.601, 262.08. Cox, Whiteford, Md., won with a 5.632 at 259.06 mph in his ’17 Monte Carlo. The win was Cox’s first of the season, while Brukart has two this year.

Brothers Brian and Mike Sawyer both took home wins and shared in the winner’s circle celebration with Brian taking the easy final-round win in Super Street and Mike knocking out Brenda Hunter in the Super Gas final. The win was Brian’s first of the year as Barbara Markoglu was a no-show. Mike was better at both ends of the track to defeat Hunter with a 9.938, 163.41 lap in his ’03 Cavalier.

In one of the closest final rounds of the weekend, Calvin Hill, Tamaqua, Pa., beat out Frank Aragona, Freehold, N.J., to win Comp. Hill left first by just .001-second and held on to win by about 13 inches, running 8.122 seconds at 150.23 mph for his second win of the year.

Ronald Proctor and Kyle Cultrera took home the honors in the MX Magnaflux Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes, respectively. Proctor, Harpers Ferry, W.Va., powered his ’09 Mustang past Nick Willard, Leominster, Mass., in 6.799 seconds at 196.27 mph. Cultrera, Eliot, Maine, had a great .004-second reaction time and led all the way against Steven Kerns of Kutztown, Pa.

Rounding out the winners were Joseph Franco beating Douglas Linke in Super Stock; Todd Hoven knocking out Linke’s nephew, Bubba, in Stock; Mike Robilotto winning in Super Comp over Brian Guthrie; and Frank Berard Jr. taking the Pro Stock Snowmobile trophy.

The NHRA Summit Racing Jr. Drag Racing League was also in action with Matt Schell downing Pat Richardson in the 13-17-year-old class, Brody Harp winning against Kate Hallin 10-12 age bracket, and Tyler DePascale beating out Frank Aragona III in the 6-9 class.
