Peter Biondo and Frank Aragona powered their way through competition to victory Sunday at the 48th annual NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Aragona, Freedhold, N.J., secured his first win at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, as Pete Hanratty, Speonk, N.Y., fouled at the starting line. Aragona registered his winning pass of 8.282 seconds, 112.93 mph in Comp Eliminator.

Biondo, Maspeth, N.Y., battled through six rounds in the Stock Eliminator field to face off against local racer Russell Linke, Old Bridge, N.J. The New Yorker silenced the New Jersey home crowd as he cruised to his 52nd national event win on a breakout by Linke. Biondo recorded his victory pass of 10.372 seconds, 126.83 mph. Linke runner-upped at 10.703 seconds, 123.93 mph.

Timothy Fletcher, Churchville, N.Y., grabbed the starting-line advantage and never gave Herbie Null, Greencastle, Pa., the chance to catch up. Fletcher took the Super Stock national event Wally trophy back home to New York, finishing up at 10.165 seconds, 122.14 mph. Null clocked in at 9.997 seconds, 131.01 mph.

Jeff Brooks, Fredericksburg, Va., stayed on the straight and narrow to win the Top Sportsman presented by Racing RVs Wally in 6.840 seconds, 199.70 mph. Ronald Riegel, Fairless Hills, Pa., had the better light, but his Camaro lost traction around the 330-foot mark, and he had to ease off the throttle temporarily, relinquishing his lead and finishing at 7.236 seconds, 193.40 mph.

The other drivers visiting the winner’s circle were Kevin Robb in Super Comp and Dan Northrop in Super Gas.
