Tricky Tipster: NHRA 4-Wide Nationals
The fourth stop on the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series tour will take us to zMax Dragway for the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals, the only event this season to feature the unique four-wide format.
This week, the PlayNHRA Favorites include Shawn Langdon, Matt Hagan, Greg Anderson, and Gaige Herrera in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle, respectively, as the event will be part of the PlayNHRA initiative, where drag racing fans will once again have the opportunity to engage in fantasy games, gaming, and betting for this event. Betting markets feature Professional classes, where fans can wager on event winners, low elapsed time of the event, head-to-head matchups, and season champions.
Below are the opening odds as provided by Alt Sports Data.
(Note: In American sports betting, odds are typically expressed with a plus (+) or minus (–) symbol followed by a number. For example, +200 signifies the amount a bettor could win if wagering $100. If the bet works out, the player will receive a total payout of $300; $200 profit + $100 initial stake.)
TOP FUEL

Last year, Shawn Langdon won the spring four-wide event over Justin Ashley, who returned the favor in the final round of the fall event, which also used the four-wide format. Langdon was also the winner in Phoenix earlier this year, and he’s currently No. 2 in the standings, just four points behind teammate Doug Kalitta, so it stands to reason that he’d be at or near the top of the list.
The Kalitta Air driver opens at +650, meaning a $10 wager would return $75.00. Langdon has won twice at zMax Dragway with wins in 2025 and 2019.
In terms of odds, Kalitta is just a fraction behind Langdon with an opening price of +700, while Gainesville winner Josh Hart and Pomona winner Tony Stewart are both at +750. Solid value can be found in Pomona finalist Justin Ashley at +850.
The four-wide events have occasionally produced first-time winners, which might be good news for Maddi Gordon, Jasmine Salinas, Ida Zetterström, or Dan Mercier. Gordon is +1000, while Salinas is +1200, with Zetterström at +1800 and Mercier at +2200. When it comes to long shots, few are more attractive than eight-time world champion Tony Schumacher at a lofty +3000.

FUNNY CAR

Continuing a recent trend, the Funny Car field is wide open with the top eight drivers in the class priced at 10-1 or shorter. The field is led by Matt Hagan, who is fresh off a win in Pomona. Hagan, who is tied with Ron Capps for the championship lead, can be had for +350. It’s also worth noting that Hagan has four wins in Charlotte and also ran the first three-second run at zMax Dragway in 2011.
After Hagan, the Funny Car odds get interesting as Austin Prock is ranked second at +500. It’s no secret that Prock has struggled in his first three outings since joining Bob Tasca’s Motorcraft Ford team, but the general consensus is that he will become a threat sooner rather than later. It also helps that Prock has four wins in Charlotte, including both four-wide races last season.
Jordan Vandergriff’s solid start as Prock’s replacement hasn’t gone unnoticed by the oddsmakers, as he opens at +650, while Ron Capps, the points leader, is +700, and Gainesville winner Chad Green is +750, a price he shares with J.R. Todd.
Of particular interest to Funny Car fans is the +1200 price attached to former world champion Jack Beckman, who has just one round-win this season but appears more than capable of a breakout performance at any given moment.
Those who favor long shots might also want to take a closer look at Spencer Hyde, Daniel Wilkerson, Alexis DeJoria, or Cruz Pedregon, who can be had for between +900 and +1400.
There are 17 Funny Cars on the pre-entry list, meaning there will be a battle on Friday and Saturday just to make the field for Sunday’s final eliminations.

PRO STOCK

Welcome to the latest edition of the Greg and Dallas show as Greg Anderson and Dallas Glenn are once again big favorites with the Charlotte oddsmakers. The KB Titan teammates, who have combined for seven world titles, are once again listed as big favorites with Anderson at +280 and Glenn at +300. Glenn and Anderson have combined to win two of the first three events of the season, and they are currently 73 points clear of third-place Greg Stanfield in the NHRA Mission Foods standings.
The oddsmakers have shown respect to Gainesville winner Matt Hartford, who is third at +850, and the same can be said for six-time champ Erica Enders, who opens at +1000. The Stanfields, Aaron and Greg, are at +1200 and +1400, respectively.
In terms of long shots, there are several interesting prospects, including Cody Coughlin at +1600, Jeg Coughlin Jr. at +1800, and Matt Latino, also at +1800. That also applies to rookie Cody Anderson, who has been solid in his first three starts and can be had for +2000.
For those who really like to gamble, a recent NHRA rules revision allowed Dodge- and Ford-powered Pro Stock entries an additional 500 rpm. That attracted Dodge racers Brandon Miller and Alan Prusiensky, who are both at +6000.

PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE

The Pro Stock Motorcycle class has not competed since the season-opening Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, which has given teams plenty of time to test and refine their setups ahead of the annual four-wide event in Charlotte. Once again, Gaige Herrera is the favorite, and a substantial one at +130. Herrera is tailed by his Vance & Hines teammate, Richard Gadson, who is +280 after winning the Gainesville opener.
Matt Smith, who has enjoyed a lot of success in Charlotte and four-wide events in general, can be had for +550, and virtually everyone else in the field could be considered a long shot as they are all priced at 12-1 or greater. That includes Brayden Davis, who is once again riding Ryan Oehler’s Buell.
Matt Smith Racing teammates Angie Smith, John Hall, and Jianna Evaristo open at +1600, +1800, and +2200, and the price looks particularly good for Hall, who won two events last season.
The only other riders in the field who have previously won a national event are Steve Johnson (+1800), Chase Van Sant (+2000), Geno Scali (+5000), and Michael Ray, who is riding a fifth MSR entry and has the longest odds in the field at +6000.
There also appears to be value in Clayton Howey, who rode to a semifinal finish in Gainesville and can be had for a price of +3500.
