Buddy Hull announces return to team ownership in Funny Car for 2026
Buddy Hull will be returning to the role of NHRA team owner and driver for the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series and beyond under the Hull Racing banner. The business owner from Dallas, Texas, parted ways with Jim Dunn Racing after two seasons behind the wheel of their iconic Funny Car.
Hull has assembled a complete racing operation and will be ready for the season-opening Gatornationals, March 6-8, 2026, at historic Gainesville Raceway.
“I want to thank Jim Dunn Racing for the opportunity to race a nitro Funny Car full-time,” said Hull, who raced to numerous quarterfinal finishes over the past two seasons. “After the experiences of the past two seasons, the time was right for me to take ownership of my career and brand. I have a lot of business opportunities on and off the track, and this was the perfect time to take the next step in my Funny Car career.”
Hull will continue to compete in the Funny Car class with his own Funny Car team led by crew chiefs Mike Guger and Johnny West. He currently has two complete Funny Cars at his Dallas area shop, and the team will be testing in advance of the 2026 season with plans to be a consistent mid-3.90 Funny Car in what is shaping up to be very competitive Funny Car field.
“I have worked with Mike for a number of years, and adding the expertise of Johnny West to my team will give us a great 1-2 punch,” said Hull. “We will be ready to go every qualifying session and every elimination round. I am excited for the future, and we have some great marketing partners that will be along for the ride.”
Hull will continue to build his brand off the track with his award-winning television show Talkin’ Funny Cars with Buddy Hull as well as additional marketing events and programs. The team will be making sponsorship announcements during the 2026 PRI Show in Indianapolis this week. More announcements will continue throughout the offseason, leading up to the Gatornationals.
