Last week, Texas Motorplex, like much of the state of Texas, suffered massive property damage, including severe water damage to the three-story suite tower complex, concession warehouse, and a number of buildings in the Food Court after a winter storm blasted the Lone Star State.

Despite the damage, the staff of the facility, known nationally for hosting the NHRA FallNationals each October, showed their resiliency and #TexasStrong giving spirit by handing out 500 cases of bottled water last Saturday and Sunday. The staff spent eight hours on Saturday and five hours Sunday providing Ellis County and surrounding neighbors with clean water as the entire state begins recovering from a historic weather event.

“The suite tower building has massive water damage, and we have already begun working to fix and refurbish the nearly three-dozen suites damaged, as well as our race control center and media room,” said Billy Meyer, Texas Motorplex owner. “Even with all the damage to our facility, we knew our community was in need, so we took all the bottled water we had on hand and began promoting on social media that we would be giving it away. There are so many people affected by this storm, we knew we needed to help as best we could. We are always #TexasStrong, and we are not going to miss a beat with our racing program even with the damage to the tower. We might not be back to 100% by the Funny Car Chaos event at the end of March, but we will be working night and day.”

The 500-acre facility will be hosting the Radial Roundup event on March 18-20, and the following weekend the facility will host the largest Funny Car event in more than four decades when Nitro Madness kicks off March 26-27 with more than 60 Funny Cars and fuel altereds starting the Funny Car Chaos national series.

“We are looking forward to hosting both the competitors for the Radial Roundup but also the historic field of Funny Cars for Nitro Madness,” added Andy Carter, Texas Motorplex general manager. “We are making plans to work around the clock to get the suites serviceable for our guests by each of those events. I am just thankful we were able to help the community with the water distribution. Putting some smiles on people’s faces over the weekend was really a great feeling. It will be a tough recovery, but Texans will always bounce back.”
