The School of Automotive Machinists and Technology NHRA Factory Stock Showdown will take center stage during eight NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events this season beginning with the prestigious Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals, June 5-7. The series will also make stops in Norwalk, Chicago, Indianapolis, Charlotte, St. Louis, and Dallas before wrapping up at the famed Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Oct. 29-Nov. 1. Drivers will once again be competing for a year-end NHRA Wally based on all eight events counting towards the championship.
The SAM Tech.edu Factory Stock Showdown provides a showcase for modern American muscle cars and has quickly become a favorite among NHRA fans and competitors alike. The class features heads-up competition between Ford Cobra Jets Mustangs, Dodge Drag Pak Challengers, and Chevrolet COPO Camaros. With supercharged engines producing nearly 1,500 horsepower, Factory Stock entries at well into the seven-second zone at speeds of over 175-mph.
Last year, former Auto Club Road to the Future award winner Drew Skillman drove his Cobra Jeg Mustang to a season-opening win in Gainesville and went on to capture two more victories en route to the season championship. The class also features past and current NHRA Mello Yello series pros including Pro Stock veterans Mark Pawuk, Allen Johnson, and Chris Holbrook, as well as current Top Fuel championship contender Leah Pruett, the 2018 SAM Tech Factory Stock champion.
