After the first two runs in the special exhibition of Hot Rod Drag Week entries at zMax Dragway, Rick Steinke is the leader with his popular “Honk if parts fall off” four-door ’67 Chevelle. Steinke, who admits that his rustic Chevy carries far more substance than style, has a two-run average of 8.686 to take the lead heading into Saturday, where each of the eight competitors will get two more runs to determine an overall champion. The Drag Week showcase features cars in the popular Street Race Small Block Power Adder class. The eight competitors at zMax Dragway will make a total of four runs and the driver closest to 8.50 seconds will be declared the champion.

Steinke took over the lead after Drag Week champion Randall Reid ran under the 8.50 elapsed time break. Under Drag Week rules, he is credited with a 20.00 elapsed time for the run. After running an 8.518 in the first round, Reid’s average for the two runs dropped to a 14.25. Lisa Fischer is currently No. 2 with a 9.064 average in her turbocharged Buick Grand National while Scott Brown is in the mix with a 9.165 two-run average from his ’53 Chevy.
