Super Comp eliminations took a wild turn at the Virginia NHRA Nationals when Michele Costa broke an axle on her dragster and lost a wheel midway down the Virginia Motorsports Park dragstrip as a result. Costa brought her dragster to a stop and exited the car safely before looking at her race car with as much shock as disappointment.

Sherman Adock Jr. went on to take the round win and advanced to the quarterfinals. Costa previously ran an 8.92-second pass in the second round to get a matchup with the veteran racer and qualified in the No. 11 spot. Racing continues at the Virginia NHRA Nationals and can be seen anytime on NHRA.TV. Final eliminations for the Mello Yello categories can be seen on FS1 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
