Racing in his first national event of the season, Wright earned the title in Top Sportsman presented by RacingRVs after he defeated Bengt Blomberg in the final. Wright put together a solid run in the final with a .010 light and a 6.626 on his 6.60 dial. Blomberg had a quicker light in his Firebird with a .007 but trailed at the finish line with a 6.834 on his 6.78 dial.
