Tommy Johnson Jr. ran the low elapsed time of the second round of eliminations and will get a shot at stopping John Force in the semifinals. That has proved difficult through the first two rounds of Funny Car racing at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals as the 16-time champion has mowed through a pair of Don Schumacher Racing Funny Car teams so far. Force defeated Ron Capps with a 3.961-second elapsed time and will not have lane choice against Johnson.

Force's teammate Robert Hight, who qualified on the pole, will get lane choice against Don Schumacher Racing driver Jack Beckman on the other side of the bracket. The Infinite Hero Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car moved past Jeff Arend and the Head Contractors Ford Mustang with a 3.962-second pass. Hight bested Cruz Pedregon, who ran a 4.03 in defeat.

Semifinal-pairings (lane choice first): Robert Hight vs. Jack Beckman; Tommy Johnson Jr. vs. John Force
