Mike Guger is a veteran of the nitro ranks. He came up in the sport working for the legendary Dale Armstrong, beginning in the alcohol ranks in the 1970s. He was part of the team that made the first 300-mph run in the history of the sport with Kenny Bernstein in 1992.

Guger received his first opportunity to be a crew chief with Bob Vandergriff Racing on a part-time basis prior to his full season in 2015 tuning for Larry Dixon along with co-crew chief Joe Barlam. The team finished No. 4 in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series points standings and reached six final rounds.

Guger finally scored his first win in the lead tuner role at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Phoenix when Leah Pritchett drove the Quaker State dragster to victory.

This is the first in a series of Crew Chief Confidential episodes. Look for new installments regularly.
