Tommy Johnson's three round wins in Arizona gave him 307 in his Funny Car career and that is 11th most in the history of the class.. Cruz Pedregon was the 1998 winner at this event. Johnson Jr. is 20 - 12 against Pedregon in prior events. Johnson gets out of the gate first but Pedregon makes up a little ground early. Pedregon starts drifting to the right, starts heading towards the wall late in the run, then has to back off the throttle. Johnson goes right down the groove with a clean pass to take the win. Robert Hight won here in 2012, 2014 & 2016. Dave Richards is the 56th different driver to face Robert Hight in eliminations. Hight gets the holeshot and starts pulling away. Richards starts rattling the tires at the hit, the car makes a move to the right, then he gives up on the run about 100 feet out. Hight goes right down the groove with the quickest pass of the event to take the win. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.240, 660ft-3.157/282.72 mph.

This is John Force's 40th Gatornationals. He has 8 wins and 5 runner-up finishes in Gainesville. His 8 wins are the most for any Funny Car driver. He is the defending event champion and is 6 -2 against his daughter in first-round matchups..Courtney is coming off her win in Arizona. John is 15 - 10 against Courtney in prior events. Courtney gets out of the gate first, gets about 800 feet out and is out of power, not sure why. John makes a clean pass to the 660 foot mark, then the car noses over.

Beckman is 3 - 1 against Campbell in prior events. Beckman gets the holeshot and extends his lead all the way through the run. Campbell keeps him honest, making a clean pass, his quickest of the weekend, but he was falling behind at every marker.

This is Gary Densham's 483rd race and that moves him into a tie with Tony Schumacher for 8th place all-time in the pro classes. Gary was inducted into the Drag Racing Hall of Fame on Thursday night. Shawn Langdon is the 76th driver to race Gary in eliminations. Densham gets out of the gate first but Langdon starts reeling him in quickly. Langdon goes around him before they reach the 60-foot mark and starts pulling away. Densham makes a decent pass but looks like the car nosed over just before he crossed the finish line. Langdon will have lane choice over Johnson in the next round.

Tim Wilkerson won this race in 2010. Matt Hagan starts the day with 309 round wins and that is 10th best in the history of the FC class. Hagan is 17 - 7 against Wilkerson in prior events. Wilkerson gets out of the gate first but goes up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle and he has to abort the run. Hagan goes right down the groove with a good pass to take the win. Hight will have lane choice over Hagan in the next round.

Ron Capps won the Gatornationals in 2006, 2007 & 2015. Bob Tasca won his first FC race at this event in 2009 and was runner-up in 2010. Capps is 19 - 10 against Tasca III in prior events. Tasca gets a small advantage off the line but Capps is able to reel him in quickly. Tasca makes his quickest pass of the event but was falling behind all the way through the run. Ron Capps' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.025), 330 ft(0.025), 660ft(0.014). MOV: 0.0158 seconds (approximately 8 feet). Capps will have lane choice over Courtney Force in the next round.

Del Worsham has won here in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. Kenny Bernstein is the only other driver to do that at this event. Worsham is 1 - 0 against Todd in prior events. Todd does his burnout and the chutes come out, not sure why. He has to click it off, get out of the car, and get over the wall before Worsham can run. Worsham goes down the groove with a decent pass to take the win. Beckman will have lane choice over Worsham in the next round.
