Make that back-to-back sellout crowds at Firebird Motorsports Park for this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals.

The NHRA and officials at Firebird Motorsports Park announced a second straight sellout on Sunday, as a huge crowd enjoyed eliminations at the third 20 races during the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.

It also marks the second straight year where the stellar fanbase sold out the facility on both Saturday and Sunday. With nearly four decades of incredible history, the “Duel in the Desert” continues to be a massive hit with fans, as the renamed Firebird Motorsports Park remains a hotbed for NHRA drag racing.

“It’s just incredible to see the crowd and all the loyal fans in this area,” Gila River Indian Community Governor Stephen Roe Lewis said. “To be able to continue to offer this race and bring back that original Firebird name, it’s very exciting. We’re very fortunate to continue this race and we’re focused on growing this whole area. We’re really planning for even bigger and better things in the area, and this track is an important jewel. We’re so thankful to all the fans and their loyalty, and it’s exciting to hear they’ve had just a great experience this weekend.”

Added: Firebird Motorsports Park Track Manager Casey Buckman: “If there were ever any doubters about the passion of Arizona’s motorsports fanbase, we absolutely silenced them today by capping off the weekend with another sellout crowd. Thank you to all of our incredible fans for supporting the rebuild of this historic facility and undeniably supporting both the Wild Horse Pass Development Authority and the Gila River Indian Community’s decision to allow us to continue racing at Firebird. We can’t wait to be back better than ever next year and continue to build on this success.”

It is the second sellout crowd of the 2024 NHRA season.

After today’s eliminations, the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season returns to action next weekend with the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
