Tommy Johnson Jr and Cameron Ferre join Brian Lohnes on the NHRA Insider podcast this week. Lohnes talks Camping World, craziness at St Louis, and then has two great conversations with a veteran Funny Car racer and a Top Fuel competitor who is working hard to climb the ranks in arguably the most competitive category in the sport.

This is about the pressures of a wild weekend, the pressures of working hard to live your dream, and the idea that always having a plan is the best approach no matter what level you compete at.

Johnson Jr, by winning in St Louis put himself right back in the championship fight with teammates Jack Beckman and Matt Hagan. Had they not won that race they’d likely have been on the outs and watching the true race for the title from further back in the pack. Now TJ sits less than two rounds out with three races to go. The pressure is high but he seems uniquely equipped to get the job done.

Ferre is a guy who is working harder than almost anyone else to race in top fuel. Hustling sponsorship dollars and applying them to the side of the top fuel car owned by Terry Haddock, Ferre is making progress in his goal to be a top tier dragster pilot. The racer who understands that this is a step in a career that will have many is appreciative about the opportunity he has with Terry Haddock and he is realistic about the future of the sport. A great chat.
