Hatcher, Stanfield, and Cummings lead Texas Motorplex winners

Will Hatcher, Aaron Stanfield, and Slate Cummings led the list of winners as the NHRA South Central Division returned to Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Lucas Oil Division 4 race.

Slate Cummings and Tommy Phillips secured wins in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central division event at Texas Motorplex this past weekend. 

Stock standout Cummings of Hammond, La., lined up in his Corvette against John Brimer, Burleson, Texas. Cummings initially took the starting line advantage, and Brimer broke out attempting to chase him down. Cummings brought home the divisional Wally trophy at 10.409 seconds, 125.69 mph, Brimer 10.483 seconds, 125.05 mph.

In an all Texas Super Comp final round, Phillips of Forney got off the line first and successfully held off Alan Savage of Mexia for the final round victory. Phillips’ victory pass clocked in at 8.928 seconds, 164.69 mph. Savage followed up at 8.959 seconds, 161.52 mph.

Will Hatcher, Satanta, Kan., had an easy day at the strip, racing to victory at 6.941 seconds, 145.70 mph as his opponent, Chase Williams, Carthage, Texas, broke before the Comp Eliminator final round and did not run.

In the SDPC Race Shop Top Sportsman final round, another pair of Texans dueled. Henry Kindle of Angleton got the starting line advantage and pulled away from Lance Rutland of Spring, who succumbed to mechanical issues. Kindle raced to victory at 7.786 seconds, 167.63 mph. In SDPC Race Shop Top Dragster final round, Michael Greene, Burleson, Texas, took the hole shot victory over Michael Kile, Westlake, La., who broke out attempting to run him down.

The other drivers visiting the winner’s circle were Aaron Stanfield in Super Stock, Jack Collier in Super Gas, Steve Domingues in Super Street, and William H. Keele Jr., in Sportsman Motorcycle.

PREVIEW

ENNIS, Texas - The NHRA South Central Division returns to Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Lucas Oil Division 4 Race on Sept.15-16. The event is one of 45 scheduled across the country where drivers in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series earn points leading to divisional and national championships as well as a chance at a share of the year-end purse of more than $519,000. Categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The Division's SDPC Race Shop Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will also run at the event along with Sportsman Motorcycle. 

Time trials and qualifying will take place on Friday starting at 8:30 a.m., with a single time trial and qualifying run on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. followed by all rounds of eliminations in all classes.

Tickets at Texas Motorplex are $15 each day for adults. Children 6 to 15 are $10 each day. Children 5 years and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
