Event Info
When the two 10,000-horsepower dragsters take off with a thunderous roar and spit fire as they march side-by-side down the dragstrip, the transcendent moment provides an extreme shot of adrenaline for even the most conservative attendees. This will be the scene for three spectacular days at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, the 450-acre multi-purpose motorsports facility located just minutes east of downtown Phoenix. NHRA’s annual duel in the desert continues in its traditional spot as the year’s second event. A Southwest fixture since 1985, the event offers teams a chance to redeem mistakes made at the opener. The facility is also known for record performances, such as Tony Schumacher’s historic 330-mph quarter-mile blast in 1999.

How to Get There: The track is 10 miles south of Phoenix and minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor Int’l Airport. From Phoenix, take Interstate 10 east to the Wild Horse Pass exit (162). From Tucson, take I-10 west to the Wild Horse Pass exit (162).

Nitro Qualifying - Catch the action of two sessions of 300 MPH Nitro qualifying.
First Round Follow Up – Meet announcer Brian Lohnes in the Pits after first round to get the scoop on the hottest story from Round 1.
Jet Cars - After Nitro qualifying, stick around to see the spectacular Muy Caliente Racing jet dragsters sponsored by Lucas Oil. Known for their exciting pre-run flame shows and after burner pops, jet cars are thrust driven vehicles propelled by jet engines.

Manufacturers Midway - Come check out your favorite displays in Nitro Alley from 9:30 A.M. until the beginning of the fourth Nitro qualifying session.
Nitro Qualifying - Catch the action of two sessions of 10,000 horsepower Nitro qualifying, the pro drivers last chance to make it into the top 16 for Race Day.
Nitro School – Come join Alan Reinhart and Jack Beckman at the NHRA Midway Display and get schooled on all your Nitro knowledge - 11:30 AM

Race Day - The top 16 qualifiers in each class battle it out head to head for the Wally.

First Responders
Throughout the 2017 season, the NHRA will pay tribute to the legion of first responders, the heroes who are among the first people to arrive and assist at the scene of an emergency.
NHRA Salutes First Responders will honor medical professionals, law-enforcement officers, firefighters, members of the armed forces, and a number of other professions charged with the safety and well-being of the public, much like the Safety Safari is charged with the safety and well-being of the racing community.
