Laughlin started to lose traction and pedaled it, but couldn't get it to hook up and clicked it off.

Hart with the starting line advantage but loses traction right at the hit and clicked it off. Force is straight down the groove with a good clean pass.

Torrence is 2 - 0 against Hull in prior events. Steve Torrence is the defending event champion. Only two Top Fuel drivers (D. Kalitta and B. Force) have ever won this race in back-to-back years. Buddy Hull is making his ninth start. Hull has problems at the end of the burnout and the crew pushes him back to the starting line. He gets it staged with no problems and has the the starting line advantage. Torrence has the lead by the time they go by the Christmas tree and never trailed from there on for the win. Torrence with the quickest pass of race day for the win. Hull clicked it off early.

Justin Ashley is 23 - 14 (62%) in round 1 for his career. The No. 13 Top Fuel qualifier(Doug Foley is No. 13) is 10 - 23 in round 1 at this event. Foley is 1 - 0 against Ashley in prior events. Ashley with the starting line advantage and never trailed from there on for the win. He will have lane choice over Prock in the next round by 0.003 seconds. Foley is up in smoke early and clicks it off.

Antron Brown is 27 - 4 (87%) against Clay Millican. Millican is 1 -14 against Brown in first round matches. Millican with the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win. Millican with his quickest pass of the weekend for the win. he will give up lane to Billy Torrence in the next round. Brown is up in smoke early and clicked it off.

Leah Pruett wins 71% of her first round races when starting from the top half of the field. Shawn Langdon is 12 - 5 against Leah overall and 7 -3 against her in round 1. Pruett with the starting line advantage...they both are up in smoke early. They both pedal and as they do Langdon's chute comes out. He is dragging his chute all the way down the track and gets the win. Langdon will give up lane choice to Force in the next round. Pruett can't get the car to hook up.

For his career Tony Schumacher has won 75% of his first round races. Mike Salinas is 0 - 3 against Schumacher Salinas with the starting line advantage and starts to lose traction, he pedals it and gets it to hook up and takes the win. Salinas will give up lane choice to Steve Torrence in the next round. Schumacher also is up in smoke about the same time as Salinas, but he can't get it to hook up.
