Team Mopar Notes and Quotes Thursday,June 25, 1998

PRO STOCK TRUCK
David Nickens (Mopar Dodge Dakota), No. 3 qualifier, 7.869, 172.57:
"We'll take that for starters, then tomorrow maybe we can do something. During the first round we weren't able to do much, but we came back and got a lot better in the second round. I think we've got a lot of tuning parameters to work with. If we can dial it in, I think we've got the potential to the low qualifying slot.

"These are important runs for tuning, because we'll run about the same time on Saturday. I'd rather run in the heat than in good conditions; I think it gives us a slight advantage because we're used to running when it's hot."

Bill Henderson (Mopar =Dodge Dakota, No. 10 qualifier, 7.963, 169.33:
"We don't have it figured out - the heat's really affected us. We made a move, but it was in the wrong direction. This kind of heat really thins the air, so you get less power from the motor. Also, it looks like they ground the track, and it's really rough.

"The top end on the right lane is really slick. We're going to put in some double-adjustable shocks, and that should help us straighten out the line. We may change our low gear combination, too, and see if we can get off the line a little quicker."

Todd Patterson (Mopar Dodge Dakota), No. 13 qualifier, 7.998, 168.09:
"The truck just shut off in the last round. It seemed to be something in the fuel delivery - we don't know what it was, but we seem to have fixed it. Although, there's still a dead spot about halfway up the track.

"It's no secret that tomorrow night should be the best chance to move up, so we've got to sort out our gremlins and get it right. The heat affects everybody the same, and there are other guys faster than me, so the potential is there - we just need to get it dialed in."
