Spring SuperNationals off
to a wet, yet hopeful, start

The clouds are low and ominous in Northern New Jersey as rain at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park has delayed the start of Friday's racing at the 31st annual Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals. An overnight storm system ripped through the area, wreaking some havoc in the pits where several canopies and corporate tents took flight.

The first two professional qualifying sessions, featuring drivers such as NHRA Winston Top Fuel champ Tony Schumacher (pictured), are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., which has everyone hopeful that the wet weather will blow through in time for the Safety Safari to prepare the track for action. Several rounds of Federal-Mogul Sportsman action is also scheduled throughout the day.

Stay tuned to NHRA.com for the latest developments, updates, and breaking stories from this historic track.

A different kind of Ron Capps horsepower
Drag racing fans can now bet on Ron Capps whenever the mood strikes them. Okay, not Ron Capps the driver of the U.S Tobacco Funny Car Camaro but rather the four-legged equine version of Ron Capps. Within a few weeks, Dr. Sam Castimore of New York will, with Capps' blessing, rename his prized 4-year-old trotter horse Ron Capps.

Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Steve Johnson broke his right foot in a dirt-bike training accident earlier this week, but the veteran two-wheeled warrior says the injury won't prevent him from competing at this weekend's Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals in New Jersey.
