Prock now to tune Matco Tools Funny Car
12/21/2000
Widely respected Top Fuel crew chief Jimmy Prock, originally hired by Don Schumacher Racing to tune its second Top Fuel car, has instead now been announced as the crew chief for the team's Whit Bazemore-driven Matco Tools Funny Car. The move comes on the heels of the departure of Tim and Kim Richards, who had been slated to tune the team's new Funny Car, and further clouds the future of the team's second dragster.
A veteran of Top Fuel tuning, Prock is reported to be looking forward to the new challenge he will face in NHRA's fuel Funny Car class. Hee will work closely with Dan Olson, crew chief of the U.S. Army dragster for Don Schumacher Racing, driven by 1999 NHRA Winston Champion and 2000 runner-up, Tony Schumacher.
"I am really excited to be a part of Don Schumacher Racing and the Matco Tools Funny Car team," said Prock, "both are first-class organizations and are ready to do what it takes to succeed on and off the track."
"Also, Dan Olson and I will be working together on both cars on a day-to-day basis. I think both teams will benefit from sharing data we collect."
Team owner, Don Schumacher added, "I have a tremendous amount of respect and confidence in Jimmy (Prock) and his crew on the Matco Tools Pontiac. Jimmy has had phenomenal success in Top Fuel racing and his cars were consistently in the winner's circle and always in contention for the championship. I expect to see the same from him and his team with the Matco Tools Funny Car."
