Worsham to do burnout on pit road prior to Coca-Cola 600
Thursday, May 26, 2011

NHRA Top Fuel points leader Del Worsham will be a loud, smoky part of the pre-race festivities prior to Sunday’s 52nd running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway when he executes a burnout on pit road.

Worsham is the most recent drag racing event champion at Charlotte Motor Speedway; a three-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series winner this season, Worsham won the VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s zMAX Dragway in April. The Al-Anabi Racing driver leads the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel points standings, and his teammate, 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon, is in third place.

Worsham’s burnout is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. Sunday, May 29, approximately one hour prior to the green flag that will start the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s longest race.

“It’s gonna be cool to get back to Charlotte Motor Speedway where we won the Four-Wide Nationals and get to do a burnout for all of the NASCAR fans,” Worsham said. “It’ll also be cool to do it for the NASCAR teams because those guys don’t get to see drag racing much because of their schedule. I’m looking forward to going out there and putting on a little bit of an NHRA show for the NASCAR guys. I definitely want to do a big burnout and try to get as much out of it as we can because the fans love it. I’m definitely gonna do the biggest, longest burnout I can possibly do as long as it’s safe.”

Worsham and the rest of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series drivers will be back at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s zMAX Dragway Sept. 15-18 for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals; it is the first event of the six-race 2011 Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

Worsham joined the Al-Anabi Racing team when it was founded in 2009 after driving for his family-owned Funny Car team since 1990. In 2009 and 2010, Worsham drove the Al-Anabi Racing Toyota Funny Car, then joined his teammate in Top Fuel prior to the 2011 season. He competed in 22 races as a Top Fuel driver between 1993 and 1995.
