Perfect weather forecast for season-opening Winternationals in Pomona

All systems are go for the 52nd annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals presented by Super Start Batteries, the kickoff to the 2012 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, with perfect weather forecast for Feb. 9-12 and track conditions in prime shape at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.

According to forecasts from The Weather Channel, all four days of the annual season opener will enjoy sunshine and mid- to low-70-degree temperatures, perfect record-breaking conditions for the scores of racers eager to get their seasons off to a fast start and for fans to enjoy the excitement and action that only NHRA Drag Racing provides.

The NHRA Safety Safari presented by AAA will spend the better part of a week grooming the historic dragstrip for the event. Qualifying begins Thursday, Feb. 9, with final eliminations set for Sunday, Feb. 12. Tickets can be purchased online at www.NHRATix.com/.

“Conditions are always good at Pomona; it’s always a fast track, and the forecast is certainly conducive to great runs,” said NHRA Senior Vice President-Racing Operations Graham Light. “We saw some tremendous performances from the teams during preseason testing, and with dry air and low humidity, we should see record-setting times. We’ve got full fields in all of the Full Throttle classes. It should be an excellent show."

The event will be filled with drama and excitement, including the Professional debut of Courtney Force, youngest daughter of 15-time NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car champ John Force; two new drivers for the powerhouse Al-Anabi Racing Top Fuel team; the return of former Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr.; and so much more.

Additionally, a special Don Garlits 80th birthday Rat Roast charity event will be held Saturday evening, Feb. 11, at the Sheraton Fairplex. Individual tickets for the Don Garlits 80th birthday Rat Roast are $80, with a limited number of 10-people VIP tables available for $2,500.
