When the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series descends on the city of La Verne for the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals Fanfest, Saturday, Nov. 5, 15-time Funny Car world champ John Force will be in the house to help kick off the final race of the 60th Anniversary season.
Force, one of the most popular drivers on tour, will make a rare pre-event appearance at the La Verne Fanfest to meet with fans, sign autographs, answer questions, and talk about his love of NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing.
"I am excited to be kicking off the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at the La Verne Fanfest," Force said. “We are right in the thick of the Full Throttle Funny Car championship fight, but I want to spend some time with the fans to get them as pumped up as we are about getting to Auto Club Raceway at Pomona to see the last race of the season.”
The 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series returns to where it started in February, Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Nov. 10-13, to conclude NHRA’s yearlong 60th Anniversary celebration. The free Fanfest in Old Town La Verne, at D and 3rd streets just south of Bonita Avenue, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Not only is Force the most successful Funny Car driver in NHRA history, but he is also the featured NHRA legend at the final event of the season. All season, NHRA has honored the pioneers of the sport to pay tribute to their influence in making NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing what it is today.
“We'll have Robert Hight's Auto Club Ford Mustang on display and I'll be there with my two youngest daughters Brittany and Courtney signing autographs in the afternoon,” Force said. “It is the 60th year of the NHRA and we have been celebrating all season so this is one of the last big parties and I want everyone to come out to LaVerne and celebrate the NHRA with me."
Fans will have the opportunity to meet and get autographs from many of their favorite drivers in addition to Force, including Jack Beckman, Jeff Arend, Courtney Force and Brittany Force, as well as participate in interactive displays and ticket giveaways. Question and answer session with drivers starts at noon and the autograph session will run from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Local classic rock band “The Answer” will also be performing some favorite hits throughout the afternoon. Robert Hight’s Auto Club of Southern California Ford Mustang will be on display as well as several nostalgia drag racing vehicles. There will also be plenty of food and fun for the whole family. In addition, the La Verne Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Business Expo that will include several businesses from the local area.
