Capps' Bristol media tour a success

Ron Capps, who drives the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger Funny Car in the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, completed a successful media tour at Bristol Motor Speedway during last weekend's NASCAR event there, as a guest of BMS and NHRA.

Capps promoted the start of NHRA's Countdown to the Championship playoffs in Indianapolis Labor Day weekend and the Sept. 16-19 Charlotte NHRA race in the heart of "NASCAR country." Capps is qualified fifth for the playoffs, the final six NHRA events of the year for the top 10 in points. He met up with his NASCAR NAPA teammates Martin Truex Jr. and team owner Michael Waltrip before their race Saturday night on Bristol's legendary Bullring and was well-received by the NASCAR media in the track's media center.

"It was great to visit the Bristol NASCAR race and see some of the friends I've made on that circuit because of racing in Tony Stewart's Prelude to the Dream every year," said Capps, who was interviewed by USA Today, racintoday.com, PRN, and other media outlets. He also appeared on ESPN's Friday-night pre-race show and Speed Channel's Trackside show. "I was very impressed with how familiar the NASCAR fans and media are about NHRA Drag Racing. The first question I'm always asked is what I think about the four-wide racing in Concord, N.C. That's a tribute to (multi-track owner) Bruton Smith and his ability to go out of the box and come up with unique ways to promote his events.

"It was really interesting to sit back and talk with some of the NASCAR drivers about the excitement of their chase," added Capps, who has one NHRA Full Throttle event win this season. "They can relate to what we've been going through with the Countdown. Now ours is set, and we're preparing not only for the start of the Countdown, but the U.S. Nationals on Labor Day. It's the first time our Countdown is beginning at our biggest race of the year, in Indianapolis. It is our Super Bowl, our Indy 500 and Daytona 500."
