NHRA has signed Lucas Oil as the presenting sponsor of the NHRA Unleashed events that will take place across the country beginning this weekend, June 11-13 at Atlanta Dragway. With the sponsorship, Lucas Oil will reach the thousands of fans and hundreds of racers expected to participate in this one-of-a-kind event celebrating the American muscle car and the passionate world of NHRA racing.
NHRA Unleashed presented by Lucas Oil will be featured nationwide on Fox Sports Net in a series airing on consecutive weeks in November and December. Two half-hour shows will be produced from each of the four NHRA Unleashed presented by Lucas Oil events, at Atlanta Dragway (June 11-13), O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis (Aug. 6-8), National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio (Sept. 10-12), and Gainesville Raceway (Nov. 5-7). The shows will be hosted by Steve Watson and Sarah Karges and produced by Disrupt/ive Studios, producers of Pinks, Pinks All Outtakes, and Pinks All Out.
“Lucas Oil Products has enjoyed a long relationship with the NHRA and the sport of drag racing. NHRA Unleashed brings drag racing back to the origins of the sport in a fun, fan-friendly atmosphere,” said Bob Patison, Lucas Oil executive vice president. “We are proud to be presenting these events that reflect the spirit of drag racing’s heritage to the next generation of grassroots drag racers and fans.”
NHRA Unleashed presented by Lucas Oil will feature a drag racing format on the track that will have the sole purpose of highlighting competition among pure heads-up grassroots racers in the country as they vie for the coveted Wally trophy. At every NHRA Unleashed presented by Lucas Oil event, everyone and everything is part of the show, which will feature entertaining doorslammer drag racing action, including Pro Mods, Outlaw street cars, heads-up class racing, true street cars, and special exhibition runs; interactive events, including dyno and autocross activities; and traditional car show, car/parts swap meet, and car corrals. These family-friendly events also will have a Kids Zone with inflatables and other children’s activities to entertain fans and future NHRA drag racers.
The NHRA Unleashed presented by Lucas Oil events also will include casting auditions for Who Wants to Be a Race Car Driver?, a new reality television show that will identify America’s next great race car driver. Interested participants attending the event will be ushered through interviews and on-camera auditions for the show, which is in the developmental stages. Those selected will prove that they have the drive, ambition, and desire to become the next great race car driver. Signage will be clearly posted throughout the event to direct candidates to the staging areas.
