Tony Pedregon

Tony Pedregon, driver/owner of the Quaker State Racing nitro Funny Car, has announced that he and crew chief Dickie Venables have mutually agreed to part ways. Rahn Tobler will be temporarily assisting the team with crew-chief duties, and veteran tuner Tony Shortall has been named interim car chief.

“Dickie and I sat down this past week to discuss the direction of our program and what would be the best long-term plan for the Quaker State Racing team,” said Pedregon, a two-time Funny Car world champion. “We will miss Dickie, and we wish him well. He’s been a great asset and leaves us on the best of terms. We are currently evaluating potential crew-chief candidates and hope to name a new crew chief soon. In light of these circumstances, my focus will be on making a smooth transition and preparing for the Countdown to the Championship.”

Pedregon, the NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car points leader, and his team are in Brainerd this weekend to compete at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event at Brainerd Int'l Raceway.
