It took an extra day to complete the 2016 NHRA New England Nationals, but it was well worth the wait because fans were treated to a great day of racing action under sunny, blue skies. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Ron Capps (Funny Car), and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) scored victories to cap an action-filled and exciting weekend of action at New England Dragway.

The enthusiastic fans of the Northeast packed the Epping-area track every day, including Monday, and during the four days, they saw new track records, career-best runs, and much more. One big headline-grabbing moment of the weekend was the massive engine explosion by Jack Beckman in Funny Car qualifying. He walked away uninjured, but his car suffered significant damage.

On race day, Brown drove to his second Top Fuel win of the season and did so in convincing fashion, starting from the No. 1 spot and defeating No. 2 qualifier Steve Torrence in the final. Capps earned his second win of the season and his second at this event when he outlasted teammate Tommy Johnson Jr. in Funny Car. The KB Racing team continued its stranglehold on Pro Stock when Greg Anderson picked up his fourth victory of the season, but one KB team streak ended: Jason Line was not part of the final for the first time this year, losing to Anderson in the semi's.

Monday was also good to the part-timers who made their presence known with great career-best runs. Todd Paton was a star of the first round of Top Fuel when he upset Brittany Force. In the following round, he set a new career-best time. Bob Tasca III, Dave Richards, and Jeff Diehl also set new personal bests in Funny Car.
