Lucas Oil Top Fuel driver Crampton had a busy week prior to the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, making several media stops and participating in a workout with a local fire department and in a shooting competition for charity.

His first stop Wednesday was at Bristol Fire Department Station No. 4, where he ran through training drills and exercises with firefighters. Crampton also exchanged gifts with the station, getting an authentic fire helmet that hung in the team's pit area allweekend. Local media was on hand to document Crampton and the training.

"It was definitely an eye-opener," Crampton said. "I wasn't sure what to expect when we went there, and as it turned out, trying to keep up with those guys and the training and all they do was pretty taxing physically. Those guys are pretty impressive to say the least, especially Jack Spurgeon, the assistant chief of the station. He's 60 years old and doing the same drills as the boys. It was really enjoyable and really rewarding once it was done, but man it was hot."
